Topic: Head lights

I finally got around to fixing my head lights on the 37 and have a question. I started with about 5.7 volt at the bulbs and after cleaning the sockets, bulbs, and soldering a ground wire to the socket and grounding to the frame I now have 6.6 volt at the bulb.I also repainted the buckets with silver paint because the 25 yr old paint had yellowed from age. All of those fixes made a huge difference, however when I put the bulbs in the sockets I expected the filaments to be one over the other. What I have is the drivers side filaments facing in about 30Deg. and the pass side facing out the same amount which makes accurate alignment impossible.I have the 50/32 brite bulbs.I suspect they are probably Chinese bulbs. Any light on this dilemma will be much appreciated.

Don, The '36 bulbs look and fit identically but for the problem you noted. I have CRS, or I'd tell you the two different part numbers. There are 50/32's available for both the '36 and '37-'39, you don't have to use modern replacements.

The work you've done so far is great, but don't forget to wash the lens on the inside. They get washed outside, but have 75 years of smog on the inside.

Try another vendor. The large vendors sometimes consider it not worth their time to deal with small questions.

You may have received the 34 bulbs. Like Alan, I don't remember the number, but the 35-39 bulbs are the prefocused bulbs.

I have 4 bulbs from 2 different vendors and the same thing. I wonder if it"s the reflectors as they position the bulb sockets along with the reflector retainer which is the original.

Don, if you have the original bucket, the socket is positioned correctly. The reflector, even if replaced, wouldn't change the focus of the bulb. Look to see if the original socket is in place. Repop sockets are not a good choice in any case.

Don, The correct bulb for your car is a 2330. It has the same base as the 2530 bulb sold by Macs. The 2530 filament may be at a different angle to the index pins.

Dennis Carpenter sells the 2330 bulb.

Thanks for the info Guys, I have a few 2330 bulbs with the same type filament so will try one and see if they align properly. If I was just a little smarter I would have tried that when I had everything apart.
