  Hello folk's,

Who out there wraps 1940 Ford leaf springs? Are there kits available?

Thanks, Dennis

According to Mike Kubarth, our 40 Ford guru, there is a gentleman who hand fabricates them. Post your request in the 40 Ford section of this Forum, and I'm sure Mike will
respond. Most of us agree however, that the 40-48 spring covers were a bad idea though, as they trap dirt and actually encourage wear between the leaves. This is one of those rare examples where restoring to "as Henry built it" is counterproductive.

Dan Schwartz in California makes beautiful covers. I install them. It does require special tools and fixtures to do this job. The spring must be FLAT.
Picture is of a spring I did for a fellow a while ago. I prefer to crate them as shown for safe return shipping.
I prefer to disassemble the springs, blast and powder coat each leaf prior to reassembly. I also install new perch pins if desired.

Thought some of you may find the photograph (below) interesting. It is 'proof' as to why I insist on NOS springs for my restorations. Depicted are two front main leaves. The one in the front was NOS when installed 18 years ago. The car has done nothing but sat on its own weight. Quite literally driven only 240 miles. The leaf in the rear of the photo is NOS main leaf. Same part number.
Note what simply the weight of the car has done! The "old" NOS spring can be compressed flat under MY weight. The fresh NOS leaf - not even close.
So imagine further, the 70+ year old springs in your car after all the oscillations from driving!
