Topic: '38 ford-accessing the windshield wiper motors

The reply in the thread below requesting help in removing the '38 windshield mentioned removing a header panel to access the hinge screws. My car has the headliner (which appears to be original) all the way to the windshield and attaches to a tack strip under the windshield molding. Did some of the '38 closed cars have a removable panel over the wiper motors? I need to get in to service my wiper motors and am reluctant to disturb the fragile headliner. It would be convenient if there is a way to install a header panel.

You are correct that your headliner does come down to the windshield garnish moulding. In my previous answer I used the term header panel which is correct for a 37. I should have said headliner for the 38 as they do not have the metal header panel like a 37.
Unless your headliner is very fragile you can remove the windshield garnish, then remove the headliner staples and this will allow access to the wiper. If you have an old original car I suspect the wiper hose needs to be replaced and the wiper rebuilt.
