Guys, I'm filling my 36 ford with anti-freeze,for the first time can anyone tell me what brand to use? Is Prestone o.k.? Thanks for all your input's Hal

Prestone is all I ever use mixed 50-50 with distilled water. I even throw in a couple of bottles of Water Wetter or something similar just in case it helps. Old Henry (The older I get, the better old looks.) This message was edited by Old Henry on 3-3-12 @ 4:37 PM

I prefer Sierra brand. It is propylene glycol instead of the more common ethylene glycol (Prestone). It tends to foam less in unpressureized systems, and is said to be safer in the event of a leak into the oil. It requires a somewhat stronger solution than the common 50/50 mix, so read the label to accomodate the low temps in your area. We use demineralized water, or distilled water, whichever is available, for the top off. It will lessen the liming of your cooling system. I've never used "water wetter", but some swear by it. One such is "Purple Ice". It lowers surface tension to reduce hot spots in the water jackets. If your radiator and cooling system are in good condition, you may not need it.

Thank you Guys, How ever I can't find the Sierra brand in any of the Auto store's.Not even Purple Ice or watter wetter,so I'll have to go with Prestone 50/50. Oh, well I've used it in all my autos, and truck so it's ok Thanks again guys Hal

We have never had a problem finding Sierra. We buy it by the case at a local farm store. Propylene glycol may also be sold under other brand names. It is produced my the maker of Peak antifreeze in Northbrook IL. If you still can't find it, call them at 1-800-323-5440.
