i had my Flathead v8 running and i took note that the charge gauge was showing slight charge at idle . does this mean that my car is running to fast at idle? its a stock engine with 6 volt gen system.

Put a voltmeter across the battery poles. With the engine running, you should see voltage above seven with the engine above idle. When you return to idle, the reading should fall below seven. The charging rate is affected by battery condition and load, as well as quality of connections, particularly the cables to the battery and ground. Check the voltage with the headlights on, too. Above idle, the voltage should be above seven if the generator and regulator are working properly. The dash meter should fall to the center when the engine is off, and no load is applied. If it shows discharge, the cutout in the regulator is sticking. Otherwise, of the battery stays charged, I'd drive it. You may not have a problem.
