Topic: 34 Ford Spare Tire Locking Hubcap

Can anyone tell me if there is a way to remove the lock tumbler from the locking hub cap without cutting the splayed or welded washer on the back of the mechanism? Like all of the ones you see at flea markets, I have no key. Were they originally keyed the same as the ignition? Thanks for your help.

The rivet looking device is actually a bolt. It has to come loose, this can be done by grinding a slot in the center for a screwdriver or clipping a couple of the sides for a vice grip pliers. Then remove the set screw from the side of the cylinder. This set screw is special so lube well and don't break it.

I know which screw you are talking about. As you said, I carefully oiled, loosened and removed the screw. Then after more oil and patience, I got the tumbler to spin in the housing. However, the tumbler is still held in place by the mechanism behind it. I was hoping the tumbler would come out seperatly without messing with the mechanism.

The fastener the holds the large brass washer retaining the three round "arms" that lock the cap on to the wheel had a twist-off head. If you add a slot to what remains of the head, you should be able to remove it with a blade screw driver.

The spare tire/wheel lock was keyed separately from the ignition and door lock.

Thanks to 40 Coupe and 3w2. I did as you guys said and the screw and washer came off. The tumbler came out and is at the locksmith getting a new key.
