Topic: 36 cabriolet muffler

The body of my 36 is off the engine is back in and I have purchased muffler 16" long,6" in dia. and the seller said the outlet should be at 3 oclock and the inlet at 6. The oulet is more like 1:30. With this configuration the top of the muffler is above the cross members and will hit the floor pan when I put the body on. The holes for the pipes in the cross members are at the same height, paralle just off set several inches. It seems like the in and outlets should be at 3 and 9. Can anyone give me any advise or help. Thanks Bruce

Bruce, I had a similar situation on my '32 Standard Cpe. I had what I thought to be a "can" type muffler (as opposed to the original "domed" end muffler)for a '35/'36 Ford and was trying to make it fit the '32. I ended up cutting the outlet end out of the muffler, rotating it, and welding it back in. Came out alright. I would go to the garage and check the orientation on it and also the muffler on the '40, but I am iced in at the moment. Supposed to be above 40 degrees tomorrow. Pat
