Hopefully someone can tell me what ohms for the 36 electric fuel qty sender?? I understand that a gauge and sender must have the correct ohms for operation. Thanks.

For 6 volts: 10-100 ohms. For 12 volts, 40-180.

If you have the original sending unit, the ohms reading will not vary when you move the arm. The reading should be less than 100 ohms and stable from the empty to the full position. The original sending unit consists of a bi-metal strip connected to contact points and an arm to change the gap. The bi-metal strip is heated by the current flowing through a coil wrapped around it and the corresponding coil in the gauge. The most common cause of incorrect readings is dirty contact points, next is an open coil. The correct method of checking the sending unit is to connect it to a known good gauge and a 6 volt source voltage (-6v to the full side of the gauge, empty side of the gauge to the sending unit and +6V to the case of the sending unit) and moving the arm while observing the gauge. The gauge can be checked by temporarily grounding the terminal near the empty side of the gauge. The gauge needle should move toward the full mark. Tom
