anybody have an idea where i can get a car cover to fit my 1946 ford 4 door..i don't want to spend the big bux to buy the one from mac's right now. i did try one for what was a large car . it fit a 1987 grand marquis fine, but only made it to my door handles on the 46. needs to be somewhat weather proof.

The cover must be "breathable" or it will damage your vehicle. Don't use a plastic tarp, or the moisture will ruin your car. The best ones we have used are cheap ones from Walmart. The keep off the dust, but let moisture to escape. No cover that I know of is safe for outdoor storage, regardless of claims.

Finding a totally waterproof cover may be difficult. An option might be the tent style garage sold by Costco. They are less than $200 and come with sides and ends. They are waterproof and give good protection in summer and winter. A word of caution if you live in windy conditions they need to be anchored down.If you decide to go this route I can give you instructions for an anchoring technique that I used on mine.

For the budget minded car cover customer with an old car with more hieght than modern cars, try this: Measure the length and height of your car, then find a SUV of similar demensions. Buy the SUV cover and it will cover you car to the running board or below. I find the Ford Explorer cover just right for my 34 Ford Fordor and our 35 Buick Sedan. I have friends who use the Expedition or Suburban size for bigger cars. If it's a big Coupe, try a cover for a pickup truck.
Internet auctions and Craigslist and Flea markets may have some deals.

I think you are wrong,I rechecked it with the number
180734665034 and it says it fits a 1946 FORD,
They had one for my 37 Cabriolet,
It is not a custom cover for that exact car but does cover the car,and is under $70.00.
they give you 30 days to return if not satisfied,
give them a call and ask.
hope this helps 37RAGTOPMAN

They had one for my 37 with no problem.
do you have a special model of a 46, like a station wagon,? sedan delivery ?
they have them for big pickup trucks,
you might have to measure what they are selling and what you need to make a match,
and you cannot beat the price and quality is pretty good,
they are not custom $300.00 car covers, but do the job,
I think you will be surprised when you receive one,
hope this helps 37RAGTOPMAN

I bought a 5 layer cover for my Fordor on e-bay for about $70 and it was too short. I returned it and bought another for $40 and it fits. These suppliers use suv covers that may not fit. The covers aren't a custom fit so try one and return it if it doesn't fit.

I have an old Beverly Hills cover that was made for my '47. It is a first class item, but very heavy and difficult to place on the car. I use a light weight cover from Walmart most of the time, and save the heavy one for winter. Beware of the very light type, as they allow dust through as if no cover was used. This is very important for those of us with open cars, even though they go on easily. As in most things, you get about what you pay for.
