What would be a reasonable price for a good, usable set of original 21 stud aluminum heads for a 33-34?

It is difficult to determine the condition of the inside coolant passages in an old aluminum head. The alloys used back then tended to erode quickly, paticularly before the advent of protective coolants. Many have damage around the stud holes from a difficult removal. Today's aluminum heads and blocks are made of much different alloys but, even so, the coolants are critical in preventing erosion, and using the incorrect type can void a warranty. Many replace their aluminum heads with the iron kind, then coat them with aluminum paint. As to price, it usually isn't very high, and depends upon whether they are warped, and if any erosion can be seen at the openings or stud holes.

There are perfect new reproduction '33-'34 aluminum heads being made today at a cost of ~ $1500.00/set.

Supereal is right, unless you want a 1000 point car, save your money. Paint a good set of #40 steel heads with aluminum engine paint after sand blasting them.
The original aluminum heads have also been corroding in the water jacket for close to 80 years and can even spring a leak in the surface of the head.
My theory on used aluminum heads is: If they were so good, they'd still be on an engine.
