Topic: 41 Ford Fenton headers

I want to install fenton headers on my 41 super deluxe conv. and I have been told there may be a clearance problem with the left header pipe and the frame x member. I have spoken with Waldrons and they recall someone returning pipes because of this problem. I contacted Fred Killian and he remembered some discussion on the forum some time ago regarding this situation. Please contact me if you have any advice. Bill jwaauw@aol.com

I have yet to see a set of dual exhaust that simply bolts on. It is certainly true that the left side head pipe is the real challenge. We send the job out to an excellent local muffler shop that creates that pipe with their bender. Some headers cause additional problems on the driver's side in clearing the steering box. I agree that headers look "cool", but really don't enhance performance to any measureable degree. I have duals on my '47 because I simply love the sound of the glass packs, which was reason enough to do it. Unless you have access to a hoist, a bender, and a welder, it is a job for the pros.

Quite recently installed a set of Fenton's on a '41. The steering gear nor the cross member are in the way. However, the left engine steady rod could not be reinstalled. Also, I found it easier to lift the engine up from the cross member to ease the installation of the left header.
