Topic: 1941 dual exhaust/fenton headers problem

I have a 1941 Super deluxe Conv. and want to install dual exhaust with fenton headers. Spoke to Waldrons re pipes and was told there is a clearance problem on the left side pipe from the header to the muffler. Fred Killian told me he remembered a comment on the forum a while back that dealt with this problem. please contact me if you have any info. regarding this situation. Thanks, Bill jwsaauw@aol.com

Regardless of whether you use the cast iron Fenton's or steel tube headers, the
outlet on the left side points in the direction of the clutch and brake pedal arms.
A good custom tube fabricator can work around this, but it is essential that both the
clutch and brake pedals be held depressed all the way to the floor during the fabrication process to ensure clearance under all conditions. Of course this means opening a brake bleeder momentarily to get the brake pedal all the way down.

There will also be a clearance issue with the dipstick pipe. The best way to address this is to bend the pipe inboard to clear the header, rather than to grind away the header to clear the pipe.

Fentons deliver the best flathead sound, no question. Red's Headers are easier to work with. Niether will measurably improve horsepower or gas mileage, but look good, and sound great with glass packs!
