Topic: 36 cabriolet clutch and transmission

This car was purchased by me with a rebuilt engine and clutch, never was started or ran for various reasons. I pulled the engine and transmission to check everything, all looked aok, clutch dics etc looked new.The transmission came off the engine also. I went to put it back in and the clutch shaft pilot bearing and clutch shaft don't line up so I can't fully seat the transmission. Two questions. 1: What is wrong how can these two be eccentric? 2: What is easyiest to put the engine and transmission together and then drop it in or attach the transmission to the torque tube etc and then drop the enging in. No body on the car yet, so plentyof room. thanks Bruce

If I understand your problem it sounds like you didn't use a clutch alignment tool (or old input shaft) to align the clutch disk before tightening down the pressure plate bolts.

Make sure that you block the pressure plate fingers to release pressure on the disc as you tighten the bolts. This is needed to prevent warping the cover. After the cover is tight, remove the wedges blocking the arms and then the alignment tool.
