Topic: flathead engine a 39 or so

  I have a 36 5 window coupe with a 39 engine.
Have installed a mallory ignition system. The engine ran fine for a while. But the points didn't last but a few hundred miles. It is still a 6 volt system.
There is a weak spark from a new coil and at the spark plugs. What would you suggest to check next.
In 1960 I used the car as my only transportation, used it in Kansas then drove to Wisconsin with no problems and used it for another year, then moved to Puerto Rico. Now I want to get it back on the road.
Thanks for any suggestions.

Check the input voltage to the unit. It could be as simple as a worn ignition switch. You can test for this by directly connecting the unit to the battery. My experience with Mallory and other aftermarket systems has not been positive. At our shop, we have removed a number of them. The stock Ford distributor is one of the best units ever in terms of reliability and endurance, and it is likely your best solution.
