Topic: Tubular Shock Absorbers

A friend of mine has recently acquired mounting hardware to install tube shocks on his 1947 Mercury. When he attempted to mount them the angle at which the shocks were mounted looked to be incorrect.

Does anyone know what that angle should be (the angle fronm the backing plate mount to the frame mount)

Craig, generally the angle is about 30 degrees from verticle.

I recently mounted tube rear shocks on my '38. I didn't like the extreme angle but also didn't like the option of welding a bracket to my axle tubes to get them more vertical. Mine are almost 45 degrees and there is no rebound at the bumper or on the road. I don't know how they would work at 15-20 degrees, but there was no way with the exhaust pipes installed. My car is probably lighter than a Mercury, too.
