I know this may draw some fire but will a 42 grille fit on a 46 without any cutting? Thanks.

The answer is "I think so". The grille surround pieces on a 42 bolt into holes in the flanges on the fenders so you may be into some hole drilling. Not sure how the 46 grille parts bolt in so you may also be into some hole filling. Otherwise I believe the 46 and 42 fenders are the same. Not so the late 47s or 48s that have the parking lights mounted low. Oh yes I also understand there is a difference in where the horizontal stainless trim strip bolts on to the fender. You would need to fill and drill holes for it.

There is are excellent drawings of both the '42 and '46-'47 grille assemblies on pages 368 and 369 of the "green book". Almost anything can be done in that area, as we used to adapt different grilles in my "hot rod" days. I wouldn't expect the switch to be a simple "bolt in" process, in any case. You would need the correct stone guard and air deflectors, plus some brackets, according to the drawings.

  No cutting.
You will need part number 21A8188
The inner fenders are the same.
Page 119 of the service bulletin book shows how to install a steel fin radiator in a 42. While you don't have to worry about that, the pics help to show the difference between the radiator mounting brackets.
The pics that Superreal refer to are a great help also.
