Topic: Door glass installation

EWATERS    -- 11-07-2011 @ 11:26 AM
In my recent posting (LESSON LEARNED, I HOPE) I lamented my broken door-glass experience. Now I seek information/hints on installing a replacement glass. Any words of wisdom to avoid another expensive learning experience will be welcomed. Specifically, must I remove the front and rear glass run strips to install the glass? Does anyne know of a glass shop in the Cleveland, Ohio area that has experience in antique 1950 Ford glass replacement?

If I remember correctly, First you must remove the inner door panel, then the rear glass run should have a stud on the bottom, take the nut off the stud and move the run toward the rear of the car. You then take the glass, with the channel attached, and lower it down, then you fit the regulator arms to the channel. Then you move the rear run forward and fit it on the glass and have the glass in both runs. wait till you have raised and lowered the glass several times till you use the nut to make the adjustment

Remove inside finish strip and door trim panel.
Remove vent window frame retaining screws along the top part of the door. On the 50, one of the screws is located at the top end of the division bar.
Lower the glass and remove the spring retainers from the regulator arms.
Lift the glass to the closed position and tilt the division bar inward enough to remove the glass.

These instructions are from the 49-51 Service manual. It does not describe the removal procedure for the rear door glass, so it must be similar.
