Topic: 36 universal & housing

I'm in the process of re-assembling my transmission to the torque tube and have noticed that universal joint appears to have rubbed against the housing inner cap in the past (not much). When I push the universal all the way into the torque tube there seems to be some slight contact. Is this a worry? Will it be corrected when it is all together with the outer cap assembly? And, does one usually use gasket cement on the cork gasket that goes in the outer housing cap assembly? Thanks Bruce

There is a thick spacer that looks like a washer that was probably omitted at sometime. It is part number B-7095 with an ID of 13/32", OD 1 5/32". and is 3/16 thick. It is used on cars 28-48. It is available from vendors such as C&G. They also carry the cork gasket set. It helps to hold those gaskets into place with some non-hardening Permatex.

Supereal: I'm lost where would one place such a washer? Bruce

It goes on the bolt that holds the u-joint to the transmission output shaft. Leave the smaller washer on that bolt, put the spacer on the bolt, and fasten the u-joint securely.
