Topic: 1932 Ford Fuel Pump

I have what I believe is a rebuilt 1932 Ford fuel pump. The box is marked Genuine AC authorized factory rebuilt fuel pump # 409. The oulet fitting has a smal "AC" on it. Did Ford get some fuel pumps from AC? I would think it would be a Ford made pump, not a General Motors part. I find it odd GM would be making a fuel pump for 1932 Fords, which would be only be for one year.

Over the years, many companies made replacement parts for nearly all makes, including AC. Ford received parts from these vendors for fuel pumps, carburetors, etc. At one time, Henry Ford tried to be a totally integrated manufacturer, wherein raw materials would flow in one end of the factory, and finished vehicles would emerge from the other. They made glass, tires, etc, but found that it was more cost-effective to buy from others. The Ford part number for a '32 fuel pump was 18-9350, so 409 would be an AC number. Old fuel pumps are not worth much, as the fuels of today will quickly render them useless due to the materials used for the valves and diaphragms.

The core you have is valuable for a rebuild with modern components that are alcohol resistant. I would not try to use it as it may have the old style diaphragm that will disintegrate when it come in contact with alcohol or some of the other chemicals in the modern gas.

Terrill Machine Inc, 1000 CR 454, DeLeon, TX 76444, PH: 254-893-2610; can rebuild your pump with modern materials.
