Topic: wiring fuel pump

I have 1938 ford standard with original 6 volt positive ground system. Purchased Carter 6 volt in-line electric fuel pump from Mac's. Instructions with pump indicate wiring negative post to negative ground. For positive ground vehicle, do I ignore instructions and run positive lead to ground?? It is Carter product 1E20A-430. Help please. Thanks.

The only reason to observe polarity is to be sure the pump rotates in the correct direction. Connect the positive lead to ground, and the negative to the switch. If you are using the pump as a booster to fill the carb, a spring loaded switch is best. We prefer the Airtex pumps, and connect as above for original six volt applications.

Thanks for the wiring info and for advice on spring loaded switch. Always helpful.
