Topic: 40 Ford gas gauge problem

I had to replace the gas tank in my 40 Ford. By replacing the tank I also needed to replace the sending unit, the new tank had a 5 bolt flange the old one had a 6 bolt. The tank supplier said to match the dash gas gauge I needed a 10 to 70 ohm sending unit. I installed it per instructions but I can't get it to work. If I connect the tank lead to ground I get an indication of a full tank. When I connect it to the sendng unit I get no indication on the gauge in the dash. I have checked the sending unit with a multimeter and it checks out OK. Any ideas?

Try connecting a ground wire to one of the mounting screws of the sender and move the arm to see if the gauge follows when the gauge is connected to the terminal. Be sure that the float is not pinned against a tank baffle, or is constricted so it can't move. We have installed many of the replacement senders without s problem. If there is one, it is usually due to poor grounding of the tank and/or the body of the sender.
