Topic: Need adhesive with glass setting tape?

Tim I    -- 10-19-2011 @ 2:02 PM
Well the glass setting tape I ordered arrived, and I'm going to try to put the new door glass in the bottom channel tonight. As recommended, I measured the glass and the width of the channel before ordering, so hopefully it will be a good fit. Should it just be a good friction fit or is it standard practice to use adhesive also?

Thanks for any info!

First job after the Navy in the 60s was working in an auto glass shop. We never used any adhesive, but we had several thickness of tape. Sometimes we had to use 2 thickness at once, mostly one worked.

It's a lot easier than you think.

The bottom chanel will hold the glass tight, it should grip it, just make sure no glass touches the metal, this might cause a dart and make the glass break over a period of time,
you can use a rubber hammer, tapping to make sure it is all the way in,
if it is hard going in, using liquid dish soap to make it slide in , and wash off the excess soap, after
hope this helps 37RAGTOPMAN

Got it! It was indeed easier than I thought, and the fit was just right. Thanks to everyone who responded.

Now to do the driver's side...
