Topic: Strobe timeing

  I have just refitted my distributor to my pilot after repair .I have a 24 stud engine with distributor in front, and coil seperate ,My manual shows a Diagnosis test set which I do not have The dizzy has been set up on a rig off the car ,the dizzy has no vacuum retard fitted (British comercal).it is 3 bolt ,and the red line on the bolt tag and dizzy body are lined up .Is this all I need to do ?.I would like to time it with a strobe light ,but can see no timeing marks ,any idears ?Thanks for your help Gordon

  there are no timing marks on the engine,
the distributer,[ dizzy ] when set up correctly will be in time,
how does it run, a picture might help,

  We set distributors on our Sun machine. First, dwell is set, then the advance curve is checked by strobing the distributor. Then, the vacuum snubber is connected to set the spring tension. Most old Ford distributors do OK without it, but it is much better to have it done. The strobe tells us if the points are bouncing due to poor springs, and shows whether the shaft and bushings are so worn that the timing is affected.
