Iam attemting to replace the stainless bead wiskers on my back quarter windows and on the garnish mouldings on my 48 Ford 2dr. Ibought a new set from Vintiques which by the way has no website, my problem being the new ones dont have the holes punched, has any one replaced a set recently.

I'm not sure about the '48, but I recently replaced them on my '38 and the originals were held on by wire staples. Vintique supplied small screws to attach the new fuzzies and they work well. My complaint with the Vintique replacements is that the fuzzy material has separated from the beading in the bends right from the box. I don't know if anyone else supplies these, but I would try them next time if another brand is available.

None of the suppliers of the fuzzy strips punches the holes for you. They supply the strips for many makes and models of cars that have the holes in different placed.

The strips that mount on the body have the small screws and the ones that mount on the trim piece use the staples. You will have to make your own staples from wire of the correct diameter.

We buy our strips from C&G (800/266-0470). They come in 8 foot lengths. Match your old stips to the chart on page 289 in their catalog. We use small screws or small pop rivets to attach them. As TomO pointed out, if you want to "staple" them, you will have to make your own fasteners and drill the holes for them to match the xisting holes. With rivets or screws, you only have to drill one hole, and not match the holes used for the original staples. Once in place, they can't be seen, anyway.
