Topic: My Car's Official Introduction

LanceD    -- 10-04-2011 @ 2:33 PM
Well I just figured i'd post some pics and info about my car if anyone is interested. For starters the car is a '39 Tudor De Luxe. It was purchased new by my Great Great Uncle and spent some time in West Virginia and Tennessee being used to run moonshine of all things. Then it sat around for a while before my Grandfather started to restore it back when I was 8. Now i'm 26 and the car is mine, well that's enough here come some pics

You're a lucky young man Lance - That's one h*ll of a sweet ride. How old is the restoration? It's nice to have some young blood on here. Good luck to you Lance.

LanceD    -- 10-04-2011 @ 3:29 PM
Yeah the car really is great and my Grandfather is pretty awesome for giving it to me. He took possession of the car 17 years ago and began the restoration. So the finished restoration is maybe 15 years old.

Thanks for the kind words I appreciate it.

  Nice car Lance! Welcome!

Lance, great car.I notice it has 39 California plates on it. Are you in California? it's great to know that we have some young people interested in the V-8 Ford flathead. We need young people to carry the torch.

Lance, '39 Tudors one of my all time favorite Fords. Of course you gotta know I hads one as a kid. Yours is for sure much prettier than mine was!

Thank you for the kind words everyone.

Trjford, yeah it has 39 California worlds fair plates on it. My Grandfather lives in Ca and he found those plates a while ago in an antique shop. The car is now in Iowa with me though and I just haven't gotten around to registering it here because I like those plates so much!

  Awesome car!

TomO    -- 10-05-2011 @ 7:09 AM
I like the art-deco heater. It's too bad Ford didn't use one like it in 39.

It is a very nice car and I hope that you will bring it to a National Meet so we can all enjoy it in person.

Tom

LanceD    -- 10-05-2011 @ 11:07 PM
I like the look of the heater as well. However until you guys pointed it out I had no idea it wasn't the right one! Good thing I'm not trying to win any car shows.

LanceD: Clean Ford. Don't change a thing. Keep the blackwalls. You will soon be asked to sell it. Be aware that most people who ask that rude question have no intention of buying your car. Some think it's fun to haggle and act as if they have the money. Some think it's fun to ask what it'worth. If you are foolish and give a number, they will then want to argue. That Ford will last you a lifetime. Drive it, and get your son involved. Good luck.

Yeah this car is not and never will be for sale. It's been in my family since it was new, I went with my Grandpa to pick it up in West Virginia and bring it back to California for restoration and I've loved it ever since. I'll preserve it in it's current form that is mostly original/restored with some minor changes so it can continue to be driven regularly.

The only value i'm interested in for the car is how much to insure it for, and i'm fairly certain me and my agent have come to a fair agreed upon value.

Also my 5 year old loves the car and loves going on drives on it.

Lance, beautiful car I'm sure you are a very proud owner.

If you want to play with those "potential" buyers when they ask "what's it worth" just tell them $1500 but it's not for sale. Then watch them squirm as they try to convince you that they are going to do you a big favor and offer you twice what it's worth. Fun to play with their head.

  Lance,

Great looking Ford, love the history.
Ours has also been in the Family since new, registered every year.
Sounds like you are the perfect custodian.

Good Luck

out riding in my buddy's 35 3 window tonight and passed a 39 Deluxe Tudor near my house, I will try to hunt him down and look it over. We were not able to do so tonight, but tomorrow is another day!!

I'm glad everyone likes the car as much as I do. It really is great to have such an amazing part of history.

Now the question is why does my thread here had over 320 views and only 17 responses? Who are all the silent viewers!

Lance, some of those are "lookyloos", but other viewers are most likely those who have already posted. They come back to view the new posts and see if there are any more questions they can answer for you.

  Lance,

Tom J gave you a good explanation. Every time that I log on, I scroll through all of the recent posts. That adds to the view count on each post. There are several others that do the same thing. Other members of the Forum also scroll through the posts and only post when they have something to add to the discussion.

That is a beeyootiful car Lance and a great story. I would never part with it either. Take your boy in it whenever you can and he'll be hooked too. My 3-1/2 year old boys love going in the 49 and I take them every chance I get.

Cheers, Scott.

That's also a great looking car.

I'm thinking I'll be ready to pass this car on in maybe 45 years. By that time the car will only be 117 years old. I think with one more motor rebuild and some light re-restoration work in 20 years it will make it with no problem.

I think a great part of this hobby is watching the kids get the twinkle in their eyes. My son is 27 and likes the old cars, but I wouldn't say he's into them. My daughter is 22 and loves the cars, the eras, the fashions, almost anything in the genre. I've taught her to drive the Model A and the '42. The two of us are building a "circa" 1926 Model T fendered speedster that will be hers. Our goal is to have it finished by the time she graduates college this June - we might make it...

I bet you were a bit surprised when you figured out your daughter liked the cars more then your son. It's great to hear you're building a car with her. I would love to do a project with my kid once he's old enough.

Lance: Thanks for posting the pictures and history of your "new" 1939 Deluxe. I'm pleased to see that you plan to keep it in the family! I'm 75...and wish I'd had the foresight to keep a few Fords I owned back when I was 26.
May I suggest obtaining a copy of the club book on the 1938-39 Fords (if you haven't already). It is full of most everything you could want learn about your '39.
It even includes a factory photo of body drop of a
'39 DeLuxe Tudor like yours!
