Topic: Which fuel additive to use?

I did a search on this Forum and came up with nothing as to what to add to unleaded fuel to keep the valves seats from being damaged. I got some lead substitute from NAPA but noted that some on this Forum are using Marvel Mystery Oil.
Any suggestions are appreciated.

Most of the Ford Flatheads came with quality valves and valve seats that don't require leaded fuel to survive. I have run regular 87 Octane gasoline in my stock flatheads with no apparent ill effects. My recommendation would be to use no additives in your gasoline.

i use marv in my gas only. it keeps the intake system clean and lubes it. my engine is not rebuilt so im afraid to put it in my crank case it may brake up some deposits from the years and clog my oil passages . the bottle tells you how much per gallon to use. it may smoke a little bit but not to drastic . if you ever had a sticky valve it will sometimes free them too.

Most of the additives are unnecessary, and many produce problems if overused. Lead replacements, zinc solutions, etc, mostly grease the dollars put of your pocket. Our flatheads have lasted decades without them, even when fuels and oils were considerably less effective than today's variety. The best thing you can do for your engine is to allow it to reach operating temperature and drive at hiway speeds occasionally to burn off moisture and fuel in the oil to lessen sludge formation. If you drive infrequently, be sure to change the oil frequently, even if mileage is low.
