Does the '48 Ford and Mercury convertibles use the very same canvas tops? Are the bodies the same from the windshield back?

The bodies are the same from the firewall back. The extra length of the Merc is from the hood forward. The tops on both cars are the same.

If you are planning to replace the top, I advise using the Hartz cloth top from LeBaro-Bonney. It comes with all new pads and the trim parts necessary, except the snaps, which are put in when the top is in place. I ordered a new back window and frame installed before the top was shipped. There are two kinds of snaps, the automatic release kind, and the regular variety. The self opening snaps help prevent tearing the top if you forget to release all the snaps before lowering the top.
