Would someone post a picture of the 1939 voltage regulator used on the deluxe models. Thanks, GW

GW, Sorry, I can't post a picture, but can tell you that it is almost square, a little over 2", is cad plated, three terminals, has rubber feet with a braided ground wire from body to a mountiing bolt. The 1938 regulator is almost identical, but is mounted directly, with no ground wire.

  Here's a picture of a correct regulator for 1939.
Alan's worded description is quite accurate.

Thank you both for the information. This will help me on my search for a regulator. Again, thank you. GW

If the regulator doesn't have a separate ground wire, there should be a brass ferrule inside one of the mounting feet. Any paint, etc, between that ferrule and the metal of the firewall must be removed. It is usually simpler just to make up a ground wire and place one end under a regulator mounting screw, and the other to a grounding point. The regulator must have a good ground to operate properly.

As Alan had stated, in 1939 the regulator had brass grommets surrounded by rubber pushed in slots on the regulator. At this time, Ford added a ground strap as necessary.

Are there any vendors making a good reproduction 1939 regulator? I seem to remember Carpenter or Drake offered a reproduction years ago but no longer see it available. Thanks, GW

Never Drake nor Carpenter. Seems to me the man's name was Peterson. I can't find the contact info at the moment. Perhaps someone else has it handy?
They were about $200. The only thing incorrect was the screw he uses to attach the ground wire. easy to swap for the correct one.
