We would like a recommendation of an overhaul manual, book, etc. for our 1937 Ford pickup V8 85 engine.

Ford published only one engine repair manual for 1937 thru 1947 as 3666-47. I don't know if it is reprinted. A good reference is the Canadian manual. It is sold by C&G as Item V-224. You can see the variety of books and manuals in their online catalog. www.cgfordpart.com If this is your first engine overhaul, obtain and thoroughly read as much information as you can before you tackle the job.

Thank you for the info. My husband is a truck driver, but a mechanic by training, also a farmer. He has done several overhauls, but not a flathead. He is looking specifically for info on the distributor.

If he would like to do it himself, he should first know that It is quite possible to rebuild the distributor on a bench, but a better job can be done on a distributor machine, something that today is an antique. First, the do-it-yourself-way:

For all your mechanical needs, buy the book: "Ford Service Bulletins 1938-1940 Complete including all 1932 - 1937 revisions" Reprint, Post Motor Books. This book is apparently getting hard to find. I just looked for it online from the usual suspects, and had to go to an out of print bookstore to find it.

Scond best is to get hold of most any antique Ford dealer and tell them your needs, and buy the book(s) they have.

Fopr a professional rebuild, send your distributor to Skip Haney in Florida. He'll return it like new, ready to install, ready to run.
