Topic: Medallion - what is it?

Wolfie    -- 11-23-2009 @ 9:10 PM
My car has a medallion on the front bumper guard and I know it is not original or belongs there but is neat none the less. It is a cast medallion, 1 3/4" inch in diameter, has the V-8 in the center, and wrapping around the perimeter says "ALL STEEL BODY . BY FORD ." There is a threaded stud on the center of the back. Does anyone have information on this?

I have one of those also I beleive the material it is cast from or struck is a stainless type. Also I do not think they were made or intended for USA production cars but were made and supplied to Australian or mayby New Zealand manufactured cars. Everyone I have seen for sale has been on Ebay and always Australian or New Zealand auction sellers. I bought one for my 37 coupe and display it proudly when car is parked with other 37 or what they call a three window fiberglass coupe.

Here's an ad with the medallion featured.

They were on 1935-36 cars in Australia. Probably because the 33-34 cars in Australia were not all steel they had timber in doors & body.

I made a license plate topper for mine to mount on next to my V-8 Club emblem I bought when I joined in 1971. I would rather have put it on as a grill emblem on the other side of the Ford one but found the single screw mount to be to short to do this on 37 grill bars. Interesting I found the stud on emblem was 10-24 or 32 not sure I remember but found it interesting that it was not metric, but mayby Australian stuff was Amerivcan and not metric?

Don - you found it. What a sleuth! Most people wouldn't notice it in the ad. I wonder where it was mounted. I like 37 coupe's idea of mounting it as a license plate topper.

Sorry to say, you missed one for sale on ebau a while back.

Looks like they could be cast out of aluminum pretty easy. Might be a good RG fund raiser.

Theres one for sale on ebay.com.au ford vintage parts for $100.00 Aus. I think its to much for it, you often see them around swap meets here in Australia. They go on the bottem of the cowl just aboe the front guard on 35-36 Fords in Australia.
