I have just installed a new light switch and wiring harness. I find the lights are intermitant when moving the switch handle but seem to be in the correct location. When the the switch is wiggled at the bottom of the stering column the lights will flash on and off. When install in the harness into the switch the fit was tight and I had to tap the two together. I think the fit is too tight and I need to file the edge of the harness terminal plate so it will float more easily in the switch housing. Am I right? Has anyone else experienced this as well? I'm looking for advice. Thanks Bill Taylor

As I recall, there is a spring behind the "spider" that places tension on the contacts. Check to see if it is in place. It may need to be stretched to increase pressure. Be sure that the switch plate is properly seated so the "key" notch is correct. It has been a long time since I had one of those apart, so someone else may have more specific info.

I had a similar problem with a new reproduction light switch plate for my 36 Ford. It was tight and could hardly get it to move. I looked at the detents in the switch plate and compared with an original plate. Noted that the indents had sharp edges, while original did not. Used a Dremel tool and small rotary file to clean a little material of each detent and this solved the problem. Thanks
