Topic: Adjusting parking brake

I have reached max adjustment on the parking brake cable by tightening the yoke under the transmission. Is there another way to increase the effectiveness of the parking brake? Can the cables be adjusted inside the rear drum/backing plate?

Depending on what car you have, there might be some adjustment on the front cable that attaches to the brake handle...other wise there are aftermarket cable tightening devices available that you may add to the exposed cable under the car. Also the adjustment of the rear brake shoes can affect parking brake performance. I have seen these aftermarket cable devices on ebay.

Adjust the rear brakes first, then adjust the handbrake cables,
you might have to back off the hand brake cable first.,before adjusting the rear brakes,
the cable tightners are the next step,
hope this helps, 37RAGTOPMAN

If your brakes are adjusted, but you have run out of threads on the rear end of the cable (and handle yoke, if you have one) It is likely that the cable has stretched, or was incorrect when installed. A simple and inexpensive method of taking slack out of the rear cable is to use a common cable clip, available at most hardware stores. Use it to clamp a loop of the cable, and then center the cable at the "equalizer", the curved piece that attaches to the main cable.
