Awesome ! I like the new look. The use of color certainly livens things up. I'm anxious to see how many more participate and use the forum.

Nice Job on the web site. It looks great!!!

I'd like to know how to post multiple photos.

Also, the contact the webmaster link doesn't work. You get a mailer dameon error message returned to your mailbox.

sorry for the inconvenience. We are working on the Contact the Webmaster Link!

John, good work. I do have a request, though: the old site retained my
log-in, even if my computer had been shut off. Can you make it so we
stay logged in? Thanks!

Alan

efv8    -- 10-02-2009 @ 4:45 PM
Alan, I will check with the webmaster on that!
JohnC.
Webmaster says it will take some programming, but it can be done. It will be later next week I hope.

Don, the webmaster is going to work on this.
For now, you can scan, or insert multiple photos into say a Publisher file, then save it as jpg and post the one file (with multiple photos). I did it with two views of Pat Malone's pickup for the classified.
You might try that until it gets fixed.
regards, JOHN

It would be nice to have the "next topic" and "Previous Topic" at the bottom of the chain as well as at the top of the chain.

John, I see that in the Links section, some of the RG links are missing or
different than they were on the old Forum. I'd like to coordinate my RG's
website with the National's. Can you give me some insight on this issue
please?

Alan

ford38v8    -- 10-03-2009 @ 2:51 PM
John, I find that by clicking on next>> (next post), it continues around
and loops back, starting all over again! No wonder I've been on here for
hours!

  Alan,

When you post a reply, it goes to the top of the forum, if you click next after your reply, you will go to the second topic in the forum.

To see the complete list of topics, click General Ford Discussion.

Will any of the posts from the old forum be transferred to the new forum?

Thank you, Bill

efv8    -- 10-03-2009 @ 6:13 PM
Thank you for the suggestion. We will get on it.

efv8    -- 10-04-2009 @ 8:50 AM
Sorry, we have answered this one before. The new software is in a different language than the old Forum and it cannot be easily accomplished. It is an inconvenience, but the topics/discussions will be have to restarted. From this point forward, it will be MUCH easier to transport and save the data.

  RG LINKS:
Alan, I have a spreadsheet on all the different website addresses, but at my end this will change annually, as the President's city will change. The web addresses seem to change constantly. I found in my research that many did not work or were really out of date, and I contacted the RG's individually and they responded at various times. So, I updated the web addresses as I received them. You can go to the "Website" link and click, then write down the correct web address. We are now sorting by State/Name of Club, alphabetically. You can contact me for a copy of the Excel spreadsheet JOHN

Thanks, John, I think that at least some of the dual websites are due to
abandonment of Hemmings, and creation of new sites. I'll just update our
list from your good work. Thanks!

This is my second post on the new format. After lots of trouble getting on, my first post went to Neverland
yesterday.
I know we're better Old Car Guys than Computer Guys, and change is difficult. Has anyone else noticed a much slower pace of posting.
If this is strike two, I'll try one more time.

John: Great new website; takes some getting used to, but it's worth our effort. BUT, if I understood one of your comments on the previous forum content, all that great info & recommendations is now lost forever? This is not good news, especially if we didn't copy the recommendations from the experienced V8ers to our own computer files. Everything else on the new site is grand, but loss of all the previous great forum advice is a disappointment. No solution for this issue?

~Dick

efv8    -- 10-05-2009 @ 7:14 AM
OLD DATA LOST. Sorry. Again, the old Forum had really old software . . . different language and there was no easy solution for us to transfer the data. No way to save it in a format Users could access and read. Not so with this new software. We WILL be able to save, transfer and access in the future. WEB ADMINISTRATOR

ford38v8    -- 10-09-2009 @ 9:47 AM
John, it would be helpful to make the "<<previous next>>" button on
the "Today's Active discussions" apply to that section. Currently, the
button returns to the Forum containing the thread, not the Active
Discussions.

Great new site! I really like having the first part of the original message pop up when we hover over it and I guess I'm getting a bit picky, but could we have the pop up message stay a bit longer than 4 seconds? Even 6 seconds would be better. Thanks.

efv8    -- 10-13-2009 @ 11:08 AM
Carguy, unfortunately the time delay on the "Hover for 4 seconds" display is controlled by your browser (Internet Explorer, Firefox, etc), not by the code on the website. It would require custom code to create a similar display function and really would not be cost effective for us. Perhaps you could Hover a second time on long messages . . . or simply open the Topic.

trjford8    -- 10-14-2009 @ 8:32 AM
John, on the old forum, when responding to a question, the original question would be posted above the reply box. On this forum it does not appear. On lengthy questions or those posts with multiple questions you have to refer back and forth to the question in order to give a complete answer. Is there a way to have the original question posted with the reply box?

ford38v8    -- 10-14-2009 @ 9:08 AM
Tom, on the reply page, scroll down and you'll see that the entire thread
is available.

Alan

trjford8    -- 10-15-2009 @ 7:41 AM
Al, you're correct, but you still have to scroll down and back in order to answer a lengthy question that may need several answers.

efv8    -- 10-15-2009 @ 7:57 AM
Tom, Alan is correct. The entire thread shows up in a screen below. It is six of one, half a dozen of another. IF we changed it, it would cost us to redo the programming. I can't see spending money to change the order at this time. Many know to try scrolling. While change is difficult for some, we hope people will see the benefits of this new software.
We have updated the Forum to display in a larger format on the page. This helps to show more on a page.
Again, we are trying!!!
John

Rybcon    -- 10-15-2009 @ 11:25 AM
Regarding the "lost" information at the old message board, can the threads there be locked and a link be provided? That way one can at least scan through it.

efv8    -- 10-15-2009 @ 11:28 AM
Answering Rybcon's question: Lost Data/Old Forum:
The answer is "Not really." The old Forum was hosted on a totally different site and it is not possible now.
Again, the old Forum had old software, different language, and opened off-site. Basically, what you are suggesting would cost the club hosting fees for two forums, and that is not cost effective.

John, I've noticed that my posts are always, how shall I say this... Narrow?
I never hit the return key, but no matter, it just happens... ? The window
I'm typing in here becomes the width of the post automatically. How come
nobody else's does this? They just seem to ramble on twice the width.

I know, major dumb question, but before some smart aleck pops wise,
NO, I don't think I'm just narrow minded!

Hey, As browser of the V8 club site, I'm stunned, low and behold the V8 club has a new presence. I've spent a short time navigating this site and find it a lot better than the old site. But I have a suggestion that I wanted to PM the administrator rather than make a social topic out of it. I find that you cant PM the site administrator, Whats up? Now remember I just started to use the new site and its pretty nice so I started to review the forum section and they all started out with topics that were addressed a long time ago...old new-gossip what ever. My immediate question was why cant the posts be done newest to oldest rather than oldest to newest. Right now this is only a month or so old so you dont have a lot of pages to got thru but after time if you will have to go to page 100 to read current discussions. So anyway since I cant PM you this is a shout out to the site administrator about reconfiguring the way the forums are archived. Dick

ford38v8    -- 12-18-2009 @ 7:31 PM
Hey Dick, good to have you back! I find that the most useful way for me to use the forum is to click on the "today's Active discussions" just above the Ford Forums. You can continue any fresh thread there. If you want to post to older threads or create a new thread, then go back to the subsection of your choice.

Alan

Many thanks for the welcome to the EFV-8 Club. Very nice place of discussions and the look of the site is nice, clean and powerfull. First of all I would like to ask to all members of the club my apologies in advance because I'am Braziliam and my Inglish is very poor.

So, please anyone could help me and tell me where I can get a gatalog or some thing like that about what are the complete standards of a 1936 standard pick-up ? I do have recently purchased one and would like to leave her the most original possible and them I need to know pictures and descriptions aboutthis beautifull pick-up that mr henry built up.

Many thans.

ford38v8    -- 10-10-2010 @ 6:18 PM
G, Welcome to our website, and no apologies required, as most of us don't have a second language at all! There are no books to my knowledge specifically about the '36 Ford Pickup. All the mechanical parts, are, of course, identical to the passenger car, so for that, I can recommend the '35-'36 Ford Book sold on this website.

I am a new Early Ford V8 Member and a new poster. I asked for help on a radio problem on my recently purchased 1947 Ford convertible and received instant help. The problem is already solved. In addition to my '47 Ford, I have a Model A pickup, three Buicks, a 39 LaSalle convertible, a '66 Cadillac convertible and two '55 Pontiac Safaris. Also a 1951 Ford Stake with 23,000 original miles. Ozifords    -- 06-01-2013 @ 11:50 PM
I'm a new forum member, and I figured I should introduce myself. My wife, Sandy, and I live in Moruya, a small coastal/country town situated on the Far South Coast of New South Wales, Australia. I have been a Ford fan for....well, all of my life, because my Dad was, I expect. Presently, Sandy and I own 3 Vintage Fords and would like to make it 4. In our garage is a 1921, Canadian built, Australian bodied, 3 door, "T" tourer. Next to it is an Australian assembled 1955 English Ford Zephyr 6, and under construction is a 1915 Brass era "T" speedster.
As you can see there is a gap in our stable, just screaming out for an early 30's Ford V8. I will soon be investing in an already finished car, but I'm unsure if I should look here in Australia for a suitable candidate or import one from the USofA.
Anyway, I look forward to being a part of this forum and all the knowledge I can soak up from you folk. You never know, given time, I just might be able to contribute something too.
Cheers,
Rob

Just new to the site. Have been looking to buy a 1941 Ford. Seems like loads of nice ones out there. Would like to know what would be a "comfortable" cruising speed for a bone stock '41 V8. Trying to determine if some of the out of state cars I am looking at could handle a sustained 60-65 mph return trip (1000+ miles) or should I figure on a trailer. Thanks

ford38v8    -- 11-19-2013 @ 3:23 PM
Herbie, Welcome to the V8 Forum. You ask a loaded question, as opinions will range all over the place. Here's my experience and my opinion:
My '38 had 4.44 gears when I bought it, and it would scream bloody murder at 60+ MPH. I changed ratios to 3.78, and now cruise at 70+ very comfortably, with ability to run faster should I wish. Now, don't get me wrong, I don't claim it is safe to run at those speeds, but then an old car is inherantly unsafe at any speed, isn't it?

As for the ability to drive 1000 miles without incident, that would depend on the reliability of the car you buy. Some can't go round the block without breakdown, others go cross country with ease. A trip like that in an unfamiliar vehicle is for those thoroughly experienced in the model driven. The Ford flathead has it's idiosyncracies to consider, so its best to take a buddy who knows the flathead, and just go for it, and rely on good luck and AAA tow service to get you home. At the very least, you'll speed up your learning curve!

One thing here.... If you are a member of the EFV8CA, you'll have a Roster of members all across the country. The Roster is the most valuable tool in youyr possession should you have a breakdown. 'Nuff said.

Alan
