I am going to clean up my 35 speedometer cable casing and guess I will paint it so it looks decent. What color should I use -- gloss black, flat black? Thanks for your advice.

Most outer cables were left metal colored, not painted.

CV, Leave the outside alone, and giv e your attention to the inside. Remove and clean the cable and re-lube with SlipKote Speedo lube, or something similar with graphite.

CV you might want to consider splitting as appropriate size vacumm hose and slide it over the outside of the cable at any point that the cable rests on the chassis, helping to eliminate any rattles or vibration noise. Tom

Also, don't forget to cover the seat and door panel. The cable can come out of the casing like a black greasy snake
