I have installed grille sh*ll lacing on my 35 grille but the bottom sides of the grille where it bolts to the inner fenders is metal on metal. Should there be lacing material here also? If so, how is it attached? Thanks.

To my knowledge there should be welting between the grille and the front fenders. It uses the same welting as used between the body and the fenders. It is held in by being pinched between the grill and the fender.

planojc- Yup, there is welting there. However, I am going to respectively disagree with Tom on the type of welting. The welting is a special type (not typical fender type). It is about 2 inches wide and about 3/16"-1/4" thick. I use to have some of the stuff still around. If, you can't come up with what you need locally send me a PM and I will take a look (no guarantee I still have it!). Tom

Flatheadfan is correct. This is what I have on my Rouge class '35 Ford fordor sedan. There is fender welting between front fenders and outer surface of inner fender panels and a special webbing material between the grille and the inside surface of the inner fender panels. The lacing that attaches to the upper part of grille ends at the bottom of hood side panels or beginning of inner fender panels. I also have a roll of that special webbing material if Flatheadfan can't find his, but not sure it is the exact same width as original. JM This message was edited by JM on 7-9-11 @ 1:35 PM

Thanks for the information. The material you describe sounds like the 2" wide webbing material used between the frame and the body on a Model A. John

flatheadfan and JM, both of you are correct. Thanks for keeping me "on the straight and narrow". I think the stuff used between the grill and the fenders was an anti-squeak type material. The welting takes up at the front end of the hood and runs between the fender and the inner panel back to the front of the running board. JM, I think Ford also used this type of anti-squeak material between the running boards and the frame. See if it was used on your Rouge car.

I can't speak for John but on my '35, (39K miles), the original factory material used between the running board and the frame is the common garden-variety fender welting. Tom

Tom & Tom, I just checked my car and the material between the running boards and frame appears to be the same material that is normally used as fender welting. That's very interesting that they used fender welt rather that anti-squeak between the boards and the frame. There's nothing like a low mileage original to show how it was done at the factory.
