Topic: Gas Tank Leak

  Howdy!
While cleaning under my '40 Coupe yesterday, I noticed a small leak in the plastic tank. It appears the tank can be used either right or left, and the unused connection on the right has a small leak. It's not enough to drip on the floor but does show around the brass fitting and emit the gas odor. Anyones suggestions on how to proceed would be appreciated. Thanks in advance for you help.

The fix depends on the size and location of the leak. If it is a pin hole in a flat area, we have used a sheet metal screw with a home made gasket under the head. Otherwise, you can try a compound such as JB Weld if you can get the spot dried. It seems to be fairly fuel proof. Any gas leak should be considered dangerous, and the best fix is tank replacement, of course. Plastic tanks are relatively less expensive, certainly if the safety of the car and occupants are concerned, as wells the storage area of the car.
