Topic: Help - 38 Shackle Bushings

My 38 coupe restoration has come upon discovering the spring shackle bushings have worn into the radius rod steel and I don't know if it can be corrected simply by rebushing. Can anyone recommend a fix/method to correct other than looking for a better wishbone?

If there is major ware it is probably best to replace, if the wear is minor but affects the proper installation of the new shackle pin, remove the old shackle and clean the hole, check out Devcon on the web, they make a fine product, mix some up and apply sparingly to the worn area with a Popsicle stick. After it is dry take a 0.75" hand reamer and make the hole round again and install new shackle pin.

If the shackle holes are badly worn, the bushings won't last long without a permanent repair. As finding a different wishbone is unlikely, a good machine shop can either build up the piece and rebore the holes, or fit it with sleeves to accomodate the shackle bushings. The perches carry the entire weight of the front of the car, and have to be sound to be safe.

Thanks for the advice...I agree it would be difficult to find another wishbone therefore will head in the machine shop direction.
