What would cause smoke to come out where I put oil in the engine on my 35Ford? Thanks

  Bad rings...

If it is not smoke, but a vapor, it is probably moisture build up. This vapor is very common. Change oil often and run the engine until it is good and warm before turning the engine off.

The tube is also part of the oil pan breather system. If you are building excess pressure in the oil pan due to worn rings, you will see the oil vapor come out of the breather.

  It's called Ford Flathead Perfume.

white smoke is water vapor, blue smoke is oil. If you live in a damp climate water vapor in the air condenses in the engine when it cools down, one of the reasons to drive your car long enough for it to get hot and drive these vapors out.
