Topic: 34 Drivers Door Latch

Steve34FORD    -- 06-09-2011 @ 10:15 AM
I have a late model 1934 Ford fordor and the driver's door latch is broken. I can not open the door from the outside but it works fine with the inside handle. I have looked on line for a replacement but I did not find any. My question is does anyone have one or knows of someone that has one who is willing to sell it. The other option is does anyone know of anyone I can contact that repairs them. I have the late model and the inside handle is in the middle of the door. Thanks
Steve

Bob Drake used to sell the '34 latches for the center mounted inside handles in pairs. They are 40-46105 & 6 BS. The phone is 800/474-0099. I'm not sure they still have them, but it is worth a try. As your inside handle works the latch, it is likely that the assembly can be repaired. I'd remove the outside handle and see the condition of the shaft and the receiver in the latch. The '34 is a popular car for the rodders, so there may be another source, as well.

You might try Louis Cote' in Fallon , Nevada ph# 775-867-2729. He has a lot of NOS parts. I bought 2 NOS 40 door latches from him last October. Another place to try is All Ford Parts in Campbell , Ca. 1-800-532-1932. They also have a lot of NOS parts.

Why not simply disassemble it and repair what has broken?
The latches are fairly simple devices and any broken
and / or worn piece could be easily repaired.
