After a long search I have managed to find an air filter for my coupe. I have just dismantled it for cleaning and painting. I have a question that it may be possible for someone answer, the filter fibre material inside is in excellent condition after 60 or so years, what is this fibre. Has anyone used any other material to replace it. Thanks

We convert them to a modern paper element. The old "Brillo pad" keps the rocks out, and the movement over the oil pool is supposed to catch the dust. Even though most of our old cars were used on very dusty dirt and gravel roads, not much time was spent developing an effective filter. Old Henry didn't think much of filters and seals, as no one expected these vehicles to still be on the road decades later. I'm attaching a page showing the conversion.
