Topic: hub caps

vstol    -- 05-22-2011 @ 9:03 AM
I have been looking for hub caps and trim rings for my 52 Customline sedan with no luck from any of the usual vendors. I am trying to get the car as original as possible and the full wheel covers on it are 53 I have been told. I have a hub cap and trim ring on my spare with the Ford script on the hub cap maybe that's not even right as I haven't had much luck researching what would be correct.

try posting a picture of what you have , and see is anybody weighs in on your post to let you know if it is correct,
according to my parts book
the 1952 hub cap the part number is AB-1130-A
the 1953 """""""""""""""""""""""""" AB-1130-E
so they are different, but no real picture and it does not have any info if the cap had any difference depending on what model you have, were the 50 and 51 did, the 51 hs a picture with a large F in the center and not the FORD ,
but the crestliners had a different hub cap,as well the
deluxe and custom deluxe, also had caps that were different caps,
in the illustrations for 52-53, parts book, they look the same and had the ford script block letters. not a expert ,
this information came out of a original FORD DEALER. parts book that covers, 1949,1950,1951,1952,1953
hope this helps 37RAGTOPMAN
I Looked at the pictures, the full wheel cover caps that are on your car, are not in my FORD PARTS BOOK, could be a few years later. like 54. or so,
the one in the spare looks like what was for the 52-53,
according to my FORD PART BOOK,but do more reserch before you start buying the wrong caps,

The wheel cover on the car.

I'm pretty sure the wheel cover you show is for the '52. Ford went to the Ford crest on the full wheel cover in '53.

The hub cap looks like the one in a photo of a 52 Ford in the V-8 Album. I thought that the wheel cover came out in 1952 and was carried over into 1953. Check with Ray Bebe the Club's 52-53 Ford advisor.

The full wheel cover you show looks like the ones on a '52 Crestline convertible in "The Classy Ford V8", by Lorin Sorensen AND on a '53 Victoria in "Ford's Golden Fifties" by the same author. The small hub cap on your spare looks like the ones shown on both '52 and '53 Customline cars and on a '53 Crestline convert in the same book. There is also a '53 Customline shown with full wheel covers with a Ford crest in the middle. You have to be a little careful with the pictures in the book, however, because some are of show cars that might not represent what made it to production.
