I was working on a couple of '34 - '36 air cleaners when I found this. Look at the three "stringers" that go from the outside diameter to the stud where the top is held down. The one on the left is correct, it has a V shape stamped into it.... the one on the right is misaligned by 20 degrees or so. No V. They must have had "Friday" cars even back in the day.

Ford had amny outside suppliers. The two air cleaners could be from different suppliers.

The Air cleaner on the right obviously incorporated a component that mis indexed in the form die. I'll bet there was more than one built that way that day. I'd use it just the way it is and pull the top if someone ever accused me of "over restoration"! LOL

Roy nailed this one! These days the stamping and forming would most likely be within the same die so things like this would be avoided.
