Topic: Teflon Ball Joints

C&G offers a drag link and tie rod repair kit with teflon ball joints. Does anyone have experience or an opinion of the reliability of that material as compared to the steel balls?

Belay the question. I just figured out that the repair kit does not include the balls.

Dolman: "Belay the question" would indicate that you are either Navy or Marine Corps.

Neither. Not a Coastie either. 3.5 years Army, 4 years Air Force. My grandfather was a Coastie and a Port Commander during WW2 and I picked up a lot of nautical expressions from him. Plus, I have owned boats since I was able to pull the rope on a 10hp Mercury outboard. I spent some time as a fishing charter skipper but now it's just my friends and me. Probably spend 300 hours/year on the water in Resurrection Bay and the Gulf of Alaska. My favorite nautical truth is,"The importance of a dropped screw is directly proportional to the depth to which it penetrates the bilge".

Dolman: Well, as an old "Tin Can sailor", I hadn't heard the term "belay that" for prolly 45 years. Kinda jumped out at me. I apologize for not including "The Coasties".

Tin Cans? Were those the hotrods of the fleet?

GREYHOUNDS, we called them, fast, light and armed to the teeth. Son of a Tin Can Sailor-DD707 and one myself-DD756

Well, we had 60,000 hp, but we weighed 2100 tons. If your pickup had 85 hp, & weighed 36,000 lbs, would you call it a "hot rod"? Actually they called us the "greyhounds" of the fleet. Great duty, lots-o-excitement.

Sorry if I was ignorant in my classification of Tin Cans. Greyhound is much better.
