Topic: 34 grill fin straightening

  Dear group,
I have the original grill for my 34 tudor at the chrome shop. They are in the copper stage filling and sanding pits on the sides of the grill fins. I asked Mark at Superior Chrome in San Jose CA if he could straighten some small warbles in the fins. He said he did not know how to do it. The bends are not bad, but are noticeable. How have you folks fixed these slight bends? I was considering a clamp that could be tightened to take out the bends, but don't know if that would work or if it would flatten the front part of the fins. Any suggestions on how this is done correctly?

I have had good results using Vise Grip sheet metal locking pliers on my 32 grille bars.

It is really tough to fix fine grilles such as yours. Our best efforts have been by using special tools used by sheet metal and stained glass workers. They are a kind of special pliers with long, thin jaws. Even so, the result is seldom perfect.

Thank you for the responses, I will tell the fellows at Superior Chrome your suggestions, but I may just leave well enough alone. After all, I'm not building a trailer queen! - Steve
