Just today, I acquired for free, a set of four (almost new) P205x75Rx15 BF Goodrich tires from a buddy of mine. This couldn't have happened at a better time in that I've been wanting to replace the 670x15 WWW tires on my '53 with radials - I hate wide whitewalls and bias ply tires, but that's another story. Anyway, these new tires have raised white letters on them which I'm not too keen about. I intend to install these tires on the '53 with the lettering on the inside but I would still like to black-out the white lettering. You can use black shoe dye. Years ago you could get a product called "Tire Black" at places like Western Auto,etc. I haven't seen it for a long time, but it really worked on taking out the white letters or painting out the whitewalls. I suspect the EPA probably forced it off the market.You might get lucky and find a can of it at a swap meet or somebody's garage or estate sale. A good tire shop can remove the letters using the same process that is employed to shave the high spots from out of round tires.
