Topic: Radiator cap leaking

I’m having a hard time getting a tight seal between the radiator cap and radiator on my 34 ford car. If I remove the grille, I can get a tight fit. I found the problem is the top of the radiator neck is down about a 1/32 inch below the top of the grille. The cap must be bottom out on the grille and not the radiator and thus leaking. And yes, everything is installed correctly, it’s just the top of radiator is worn. I’m thinking about cutting a small ring 1/32 inch thick and bonding it to the top of the radiator neck. The only problem is what type of glue to use. JB weld or PC-7 or?. Have you guys ran into this and what did you do to fix.

Rather than shim the cap, it is a better idea to shim the feet of the radiator just enough to push it back up in the grille. Then, your cap should seal properly. Loosen the radiator mounting bolts and slip in shims. If you don't want to remove the bolts entirely, Saw slots in one side of washers so they can be put in place.
