Topic: 41 engine color

EdB    -- 04-03-2011 @ 10:54 AM
here is a link to a 1941 Ford on eBay. the engine appears blue to me. This is the 3rd time I have seen this color, one was a different 1941 car on eBay and the other is my 1941 car. Can anyone comment on this color's origin?
This car seems to me to be early in the production run; mine is at the end of production.

Thanks for looking.

It is almost impossible to determine the color of a vehicle from a photo but, the condition of the engine makes it even less likely. There are variences in the shades of engine paint, to be sure, but there were differences when they were new as batches of paint changed at the factory.

It appears that the car has 1940 bumpers, with 41-style bumper guards. Early production?

This car looks to be and early '41 because of the 3 piece front fender. It should be a DeLuxe as it has two tail lights and wipers etc. The engine, even though blue should be Ford green, a common error. The bumpers are correct. In '41 the Super and DeLuxe had '40 bumpers. The Super DeLuxe had a ribbed style. The bumper guards are accessories. The car looks to be in pretty good shape and priced fairly.

You can't tell the color of the engine from the photos. My 40 had a blue engine and an old timer told me that all the rebuilt engines he had seen were blue. The car looks very nice and the engine color can be easily changed.

Wolfie: I'm with you regarding the "Factory Authorized" rebuilds. All the ones I have ever seen, (at least on the left coast), were dark blue, regardless of year. Most of these were supplied by Meyer-Welch, and had a blue ribbon decal on the cylinder head. The dark blue would fade out to a lighter color in time. I think that's what we are seeing on the 41 pictured.
Looks almost turquoise on my monitor.
