Any brand name 80W-90 gear oil is acceptable, but we prefer the straight 140 weight. It stays in the transmission better than the lighter oil. While there is a rear seal, and a slinger, the Ford gearboxes usually leak considerably, either or both on your driveway, and down the torque tube. 140 is a bit heavy for colder climates, but for most of us, it has the added advantage of making shifting somewhat smoother by slowing the cluster gear down a bit between shifts.
