Topic: Point Deduction

The judging sheet shows a 20 point deduction for wrong engine. It also shows point deductions for individual components,carb-fuelpump-coil&dizzy. Are they included in the 20 point deduction or added on to it? Thanks to all responses.

  Added on.

The 20 point deduction is only for the bare block itself. In many cases, an incorrect block will slip by unnoticed, but incorrect bolt-ons stand out like a sore thumb.

What would be the point deduction on my 37 Ford coupe that was originally a 60 hp but has a 59AB in it but with accesories, generator, Stromberg everything the 21 stud 85 hp would have? Or what would be the point deduction on a 60 hp car changeover to a correct 21 stud 37 engine? Guess the dual exhaust has done it in anyway, correct?

37, a correct 21 stud 85hp pump-in-block engine installed in a '37 60 hp car will have something over 100 points deducted. To get around this enormous deduction, you can simply convert your car to a correct 85 hp car by changing the wheel/tire size, and swapping the hood badge from 60 to 85.

Anyone wishing to point judge their own car can do so (assuming that you know what is and what isn't correct on your car) by downloading the appropriate Judging Forms from here on the EFV8CA website:

Thank You 38V8,very interesting. I have the wheels and tires changed to 600:16 and a 85 hp badge, only thing else that would show it was originally a 60 hp is the serial number, are these checked in judging? Thanks again.

37, I've been a judge since 1993 and have neither seen nor heard of a serial number being checked even for comparison of early/late features. Remember, though, your 59A is a 24 stud and will have perhaps 75 points or so deducted for the various items such as heads that are unique to the 21 stud. you'll not have the transmission related points, but changing the wheels and hood badge helps only if you stay with the correct pump-in-block 21 stud 85.
