Should I flush out the banjo rear on my 35Ford before installing new oil? if so is kerosene ok to use and is it alright to run the the car in first gear on jack stands,will the kerosene hurt the gears? Thanks

Kerosene is a good solvent if you see crud in the oil when you drain it. Usually, just driving around the block is sufficient to stir up any deposits. If you don't see any contamination when you drain the original oil, I wouldn't bother flushing. We like to use 140W oil, but the 80-90 is OK. All gear lube today is vastly improved over the type used "way back then", as it has high pressure additives.

We used to hear of used car lot "mechanics" putting sawdust in noisy differentials. I wonder if anyone here ever ran across evidence of this actually being done? About kerosene... Gasoline used to be the undesirable byproduct when refining crude oil for kerosene. Go figure. Alan
